Remembering Mexico

7

I’ve been thinking a lot about Mexico lately.  I loved it while I was there, obviously:  the sense of life bursting at the seams, colours, flavours, smells, noise, an obscene amount of natural beauty.  Cramming on to the subway in el D.F. Sipping icy cold micheladas in a buzzing patio in Guanajuato during Cervantino.  Pushing and shoving my way through a cemetery so jam-packed during día de los muertos it resembled my favourite club on a Saturday night.  Entering the beautifully blue world of Frida Kahlo.  Dining on skull-shaped chocolates and tacos al pastor, drowned in lime juice.  Purchasing a soon-to-be-lost sombrero in the mariachi-flavoured chaos of Plaza Garibaldi.  The delightfully tacky churches.

But mostly, the colour.  In Mexico the most glaring, mismatched yet beautifully vivid colours seduce and inspire.  I loved it while I was there, yes, but somehow that country has crawled even further under my skin while my back was turned, while I was paying it no attention.

  3. Beautiful pictures and, of course, colors! Never been to Mexico myself – I need to get there soon. … This post also made me crave Mexican food :)

You must go, Alaina, its incredible. I’m dying dying dying to go back. Sara, honey, I promise I briefly considered raiding your photos and then decided that was evil and wrong. We are the same person though, its freaky. I miss my perfect travel buddy. Come visit soon.
